Another unpopular website on The Internet
Mark Rutherford Writes
An independent author website for direct book sales, pre-orders and AI discovery — without an ongoing Squarespace subscription

About the build
Mark wanted an author website that would help him sell books directly and leave Squarespace behind. I built the site to his specification, giving his books and writing a clear, considered home under his own name.
The book and author pages use structured, crawlable content that gives AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude the context to recommend Mark’s work when readers search for books like his. The site is also ready for direct sales and pre-orders while retaining links to publishers, Amazon and other traditional bookstores.
Light and dark modes automatically follow each visitor’s system preference — a thoughtful detail for people browsing for their next book late at night.
Without an ongoing Squarespace subscription, Mark has lower fixed costs and control of his publishing platform. He can self-publish new books, keep more revenue from direct sales and minimise the expense of bringing each release to readers.
